The Abbey bar and pub closes its doors

The Abbey bar and pub in Nuneaton has closed its doors.

The bar in Newdegate Street stopped trading at the weekend and Coventry and Birmingham-based Poppleton & Appleby have been appointed to begin the liquidation process.

Matt Hardy, of Poppleton & Appleby, said: “The owner of the property, who is a locally-based businessman, had taken on the running of the bar and food business late last year when previous operators had ceased trading.

“He has owned the property for 12 years but has decided it can no longer continue in its present form after the business failed to overcome severe operational difficulties.

“He has not taken this step lightly, having initially taken over the running of the business to try to keep it going and prevent people from losing their jobs, and would like to thank customers for their trade in 2014.”

Hardy added that 17 staff would lose their jobs as a result of the closure.
