Poppleton & Appleby presents 50th Sunshine Coach
A Midlands insolvency firm has helped to spread a little sunshine at its star-studded annual golf day to provide minibuses for local schools.
A celebrity golf classic, staged by insolvency experts Poppleton & Appleby, which has offices in Birmingham and Coventry, saw the firm donate its 50th Variety Club Sunshine Coach to Rigby Hall School in Rigby Lane, Bromsgrove.
The event marked 29 years of support and involvement with The Variety Club Golfing Society which helps to improve the lives of sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.
Guests attending the golf day and gala dinner, held at Marriott St Pierre Hotel and Country Club in Chepstow, included Strictly Come Dancing’s Len Goodman and Anton Du Beke, captain of the Variety Club Golf Society.
Comedians Gary Marshall and Rod Woodward were also joined by singers Jess Conrad and Mark Porter to provide the entertainment.
Comedian Jasper Carrott along with staff from Poppleton & Appleby later visited Rigby Hall School to official handover the keys to the Sunshine coach.
The head teacher of Rigby Hall School Sarah Radford said: “This is a much valued and needed resource. It allows us to get more of our students out and about in the community, which in turn creates a culture of independence and broadens their horizons.
“The new minibus already had its first trip planned before collection – a week in the Lake District with 11 of our year 10 students on an outward bounds adventure residential, an annual event for the future.
“We can’t thank Poppleton & Appleby, and The Variety Club enough for their support to achieve this.”
Martin Coyne, a partner at Poppleton & Appleby, added: “This year’s event was the most successful yet and we were delighted to hand over the keys to our 50th Sunshine Coach.
“The Rigby Hall School caters for students with a variety of special education needs so it will be of great benefit to them helping the teachers to provide additional services and organise outdoor trips.
“This is a significant year for Poppleton & Appleby with the firm celebrating its 130th anniversary at the same time as donating our 50th Sunshine Coach.
“To mark the occasion we even had a special cake prepared which all of the staff and partners have been able to enjoy. We are proud to be one of the longest sponsors of the Variety Club Golf Society which achieve fantastic work in the local community.
“Our celebrity golf event is definitely one of the highlights of the year with colleagues, clients, friends and family joining together to support a good cause and we are now looking forward to the bright future ahead.”
